My Volksrod Project Update-9-20-09
It's been awhile since my last update. The Volksrod is on hold for the moment. Overtime cutbacks at work and some lost interest have me at a standstill on the car for now. I had descided to paint the car satin black and red but that wasn't my original choice. Now that the cars on hold for winter I am going back to my first plan. The cars going to be satin black with copper accents. The front fenders and some body parts on the car are going to be copper plated. I have already talked to the plating company and it shouldn't be too very expensive to have this done (less than a grand anyway....lol). Now I have to design and cutout some accents for the car to be coppered so the fenders and body mods/accents will bring the car all together. Not sure yet just how much I'm going to get done before winter comes. I will try and keep this blog updated better even though I don't know what is going to get done in the winter months. If you have been following this build sorry for the delay in updates. I hope to unveil this car in the spring now. Just check back before spring and I hope to have a date/car show to let you know when it's going to be shown for the first time. Thanks again for following my Volksrod build!! Terry/Bugratt

7-11-09 my volksrod build update
Its been a bit since I updated my blog. I have done some good work on my car and took it to a car show as "work in progress". WOW!! I can hardly believe the responce I got about my car. So many people looking and taking pictures. Asking alot of questions. I was very surprised and pleased. Now I know for sure I'm doing the right thing...lol. Everyone liked the front bumper and headlights. They are different. The front bumper took me about 3 hours from paper to designed and welded up. All in my driveway. I'm still not sure where the turn signals are going to be mounted. More than likely off the top of the shock towers. I still have to fix and connect the steering yet. I'm currently working on the back bumper now. Have it started and working on where all the lights and tags will go. I still have to cut off the ends where I want them to stop but I'm not sure yet where that is going to be...lol. The rear deck lid is going to be filled in and smooth. nothing is going to be mounted to the body on the back of the car. It looks good smooth I think. With the wide fenders it looks really fide too. I like the look.I'm going to take it to another show next weekend(the 18th of July) and see what happens...lol. Thats it for now. Check out the pics and come back and check in again soon to see how its going. Thanks for lookin' !!

6-25-09 my volksrod build- update
Ok...I brought my car back to my house to try and get more done before the car show.Corey's shop is about a 20 minute ride from my house. This way I can just go outside and work and it's convient to home. Today I fabbed up a front bumper. I just started drawing and working with some ideas and this is what I came up with so far. I'm not done yet. I only have about 3 hours in it so far. I still have to figure out how I want to mount my headlights.I have and idea I'm gonna try tomorrow. I'm making the front bumper removable so if I have to tow it I can just unbolt it ,unplug my lights and hook-up the tow bar. Got my new headlights in. THEY ARE SWEET!! (they better be for the price!!) I think the lights are really gonna help make this car. Thats it for today. If it doesnt rain tomorrow like they say...I'll get the front bumper done then. Till then..thanks for checkin in on my project!

6-13-09 my volksrod build-update
Not as much done as I'd like. Got one side of the frontend back together today(6-13-09) Now I can work on the fender brackets! It looks like it's not going to be as bad as we first thought about the design of these brackets.Looks like we can just use longer backing plate bolts and bolt through the plate and spindle into the new fender brackets.Just have to grind a bit on the upper arm where as it has a "bump" cast into it and thats the only clearance problem we see. Using3/4 rubber hose for the spacer for the clearance of the fender. Just taped it on the tire and set the fender on it to figure out the bracket lengths. The arms for the other side should be in by the 16th so I can get this thing rollin again...lol. Next is the steering changes we need to make. Thats it for now. More by next weekend. Thanks for checkin' on my build!!

My volksrod build update 6-6-09
Got my new rear tires mounted on the rims and put them on the car today. Their going to look great on this car! I bought BF Goodrich P255/70R15s for the rear. They are 29 inches tall. Their goinna fill the wide fenders nicely. The fronts are 8 inches wide and the backs are 10 inches wide. Its gonna give the car a nice rake I think. Still have to finish the frontend work to see though. Had some problems with the frontend on the 30th so I had to order some parts. Hope to have the frontend back on the ground by the 13th or so. I worked on the dash area today. Skuffed it so I could paint it and sprayed it with rattle can paint. Its satin black with bronze flecks in it. I like the look when the light hits it. Sprayed all around the windshield frame too. Also worked on my door panels. I'm making them out of 20Ga steel. I wanted to get the aluminum ones but opted for making my own.(trying to keep the cost of this car down...lol. like thats gonna happen!) I like the look I have so far. Think I might distress them and then have them pin striped later. Still not sure yet. With the doors closed you can't roll the windows down!( the 6 point roll cage is in the way!) I have an idea for fixing this. I'm going to mount a socket to the handle shaft with a set screw and use small ratchets! Should be different...lol. Maybe also replace the pulls with small combination wrenches too. Will have to bend and fab on 'em but I think it will look sweet. Thats it for now. I will try and update more timely. I only have 3 weeks left to get this car ready for the show so check back soon...lol. I'm glad to know I have people watching my progress. Thanks for your support. Bugratt.
My volksrod build-update for 5-30-09
Its coming along slowly. I have been doing little things to make progress. Finally got to do some real work on the inside of the car again saturday.(5-30-09) Corey welded in the rest of the framing for the rear floor/cargo area. Now its up to me to finish it. Its going to be wood. Got some used front tires for the front so we could mount them on the 2 and a half inch drop spindels. Then we need to figure out the fender mounts. This is going to be a challenge. Corey's pretty good at that stuff so it shouldnt be too bad I hope...lol. With the tires mounted I put on one of the flat discs I'm going to be running and I like the look. Tore apart the front end getting read to replace the ball joints and brakes then install the spindels. Thats it for today.(5-30-09) I couldnt get my PC to load for an update before now so I'm posting all this on the same day to catch up. Thats why the same post date.

5-16-09 project update-late
Ok. I tried to post this on the 16th but had PC problems. Hers where I'm at now. I have POR15d most of the inside of the car. Working on getting this thing ready to paint the inside. Cleaned everything up and brushed on the POR15. Still have some cutting out of rust but it shouldnt take much more to get that out and new metal in. Not going back with a headliner just going to paint it. Once the painting is done I'm going to install the rollcage. The rollcage is painted. I scotchbrited the whole thing, wipped it down and then rattle can painted it satin black. looks great. The bar is going to be modified somewhat on the rear legs. Instead of mounting to the rear luggage area the legs are going to be shortened and mounted to the fenderwells. I have seen this done on other cars and have already dry if it to make sure. Just need to cut the legs and heat and contour the base plates. Easy...lol. I'm going to use some roll on bedliner paint for some of the inside of the car...footwell,floorboards and headliner area. Dont have any idea on gages yet...lol. I took out the factory ones and tore out the gage panels. I'm thinkin about going back with just flat steel inserts that I cut myself and not sure if I'm going to paint them or distress the finish and just clear 'em. If I do distress them I'm also going to do the same on the door and quarter panels inserts, which I'm cutting out too. Going to order my wheels and fuel cell this week(5-18). Got the trim hole welds ground down on the outside today also.Still have way too much work to get done but I'm trying everyday to make some progress.Check back soon!! Till next time...

Got into the shop today for just a bit. Put on some 14 inch transporter wheels today trying to figure out my tire and wheel combination. The 14s looked good! Think I'm going with P195/70R14s on the front to fit the custom fenders. Looks like I may have a clearance issue with the fenders and shocks. Need to work on this somemore. Set the fenders on to get an ideas of the look. Its going to be great. Thinking of some way to cover the fender bolts holes on the body without cutting them out and just welding them up. Cut up an old dented fender to work on this idea. Still not sure their. Ok...thats it for today. Think I'll get back tomorrw for somemore work. Keep checkin back!

5-2-09 progress update
Today was a good day. Had some help from a friend with the front end beam extension. I'd like to thank Cort for coming over to help. The pickle fork came in handy...lol. Also like to thank Corey for the use of tools and his garage and the welding help. Lots of progress today. The beam extensions in and front end back on. Tierods all new. Rained alot but finally caught a break so we could roll it outside and pressure wash the beam. Damn crusty with buildup of grease and road grime!! Lots of cutting on the body. Put the hood back on and notched it for the steering box. Made some changes to the design of the car...lol. Some good ideas from Cort and Corey on the new changes. This cars going to be great with all the help and ideas. Now for the hard part...ordering more parts...lol. Going back tomorrow to work on somemore stuff. Some new front fender ideas to try out. Change the turn signal setup and working on the front bumper designs. Found some awesome headlights...gotta have em!! This car is changing as we go. Thas it for now...check out the pics. Till the next update. Come back each week to find out whats new.
