progress update 4-26-09

Got the pans welded in this weekend!! Did some work on the rust and spotted the patch pans in saturday. Its looking better now...lol. Still trying for the car show on the July 4th weekend but now I found a club thats going to have a Yellowstone National Park cruz on the 13th of June!! I would love to cruz Yellostone in my new Volksrod!! Not sure I can get it together by then but I'm gonna give it some hard work and see. One thing is...this is not a "spit and polish" car show car. It's a Volksrod. A volkswagen rat rod. It's not going to be "pretty"....lol. Black primer , red accents and minimal interior. Ratrod style. Six point roll cage. Phat ass rear fenders and front fenders mounted so they turn with the front wheels. Have the fenders cut for the front and just got the rear wenders in wednesday. Damn their big!! This car is going to look wide from the rear with some wide tires. Have to figure out how wide to go...thinkin 10s. Have alot of work still to do in the rust department on the inside. Not sure exactly how I'm gonna configure it yet. Have to think on it a bit longer. Ok...thats it for this update. Come back next weekend and see whats new!

progress update 4-19-09

Its coming along nicely. The pans are cut out and I have started shaping the replacement pans. Before I started this project I purchased the Bugme Videos on DVD for bug repairs. Its helped alot!! Still have to clean up the old pans before I can get the repair pans welded in. Alot of grinding with a wire wheel is needed. Also tore out the old headliner. Not sure if I'm going to replace it though. This is a Volksrod so I dont think I will. Removed the rear fenders also. The new ones should be in this week. New ones are 4 and a half inces wider than stock! Have to wait for the fenders before I can order my wheels. Tried the 6 point roll cage also to make sure of the fit. Looked good! Cant wait for this car to come together! I'd like to thank Corey for all his help so far and in the future of this project. You've been a huge help.Ok...more updates soon.

Tearing out the rust

Ok...today was a busy day. Started cutting out the rusty spots...lol. Ofcourse theirs more work than expected....but it has given me and Corey( a friend who's helping me since I've never done this before) some new ideas. Changed what we're doing on the rear of the car. Now it's going to have access panels so I can get to all the stuff in the rear of the car without crawling under the car. Theirs not going to be a back seat anymore. Still have to cut out the read pans for the repair panels but the changes in the back have taken over for now. Whens its done in a couple of days it will be a better car. Not changing much on the outside of the car as far as body work. Not sure whats going to happen to the interior yet. Think its going to be pretty sparce. Rust rod style...minimal. Here's some pics from today. Check back in a few days and I should have some more progress then with more pics.(thats Cory in the pic)

Starting the project

Ok....here's a pic of the car just after towing it to the shop. It's going to be a long project...lol. I want it done for the Cache Valley Cruise In for the weekend of the 4th of July. Ok... maybe not Done...but driveable. Its a nice looking car....now. It's going to go through some serious changes soon.

The Start

Ok folks. This my first entry. I'm building a somewhat custom car. Its called a Volksrod. They have been around for years. Its a low budget street rod type car. For those os us who cant afford to build a traditional car. I have a '66 Impala for a future project but its not the time/money for it now...lol. I will be posting pics and progress reports on this project as frequently as possible. Come check it out every week or so to see my progress. Thanks for checking out my blog. Hope this is just the start to this whole blogging thing for me...lol. OK...now off to work on the car!!
