6-25-09 my volksrod build- update

Ok...I brought my car back to my house to try and get more done before the car show.Corey's shop is about a 20 minute ride from my house. This way I can just go outside and work and it's convient to home. Today I fabbed up a front bumper. I just started drawing and working with some ideas and this is what I came up with so far. I'm not done yet. I only have about 3 hours in it so far. I still have to figure out how I want to mount my headlights.I have and idea I'm gonna try tomorrow. I'm making the front bumper removable so if I have to tow it I can just unbolt it ,unplug my lights and hook-up the tow bar. Got my new headlights in. THEY ARE SWEET!! (they better be for the price!!) I think the lights are really gonna help make this car. Thats it for today. If it doesnt rain tomorrow like they say...I'll get the front bumper done then. Till then..thanks for checkin in on my project!

6-13-09 my volksrod build-update

Not as much done as I'd like. Got one side of the frontend back together today(6-13-09) Now I can work on the fender brackets! It looks like it's not going to be as bad as we first thought about the design of these brackets.Looks like we can just use longer backing plate bolts and bolt through the plate and spindle into the new fender brackets.Just have to grind a bit on the upper arm where as it has a "bump" cast into it and thats the only clearance problem we see. Using3/4 rubber hose for the spacer for the clearance of the fender. Just taped it on the tire and set the fender on it to figure out the bracket lengths. The arms for the other side should be in by the 16th so I can get this thing rollin again...lol. Next is the steering changes we need to make. Thats it for now. More by next weekend. Thanks for checkin' on my build!!

My volksrod build update 6-6-09

Got my new rear tires mounted on the rims and put them on the car today. Their going to look great on this car! I bought BF Goodrich P255/70R15s for the rear. They are 29 inches tall. Their goinna fill the wide fenders nicely. The fronts are 8 inches wide and the backs are 10 inches wide. Its gonna give the car a nice rake I think. Still have to finish the frontend work to see though. Had some problems with the frontend on the 30th so I had to order some parts. Hope to have the frontend back on the ground by the 13th or so. I worked on the dash area today. Skuffed it so I could paint it and sprayed it with rattle can paint. Its satin black with bronze flecks in it. I like the look when the light hits it. Sprayed all around the windshield frame too. Also worked on my door panels. I'm making them out of 20Ga steel. I wanted to get the aluminum ones but opted for making my own.(trying to keep the cost of this car down...lol. like thats gonna happen!) I like the look I have so far. Think I might distress them and then have them pin striped later. Still not sure yet. With the doors closed you can't roll the windows down!( the 6 point roll cage is in the way!) I have an idea for fixing this. I'm going to mount a socket to the handle shaft with a set screw and use small ratchets! Should be different...lol. Maybe also replace the pulls with small combination wrenches too. Will have to bend and fab on 'em but I think it will look sweet. Thats it for now. I will try and update more timely. I only have 3 weeks left to get this car ready for the show so check back soon...lol. I'm glad to know I have people watching my progress. Thanks for your support. Bugratt.

My volksrod build-update for 5-30-09

Its coming along slowly. I have been doing little things to make progress. Finally got to do some real work on the inside of the car again saturday.(5-30-09) Corey welded in the rest of the framing for the rear floor/cargo area. Now its up to me to finish it. Its going to be wood. Got some used front tires for the front so we could mount them on the 2 and a half inch drop spindels. Then we need to figure out the fender mounts. This is going to be a challenge. Corey's pretty good at that stuff so it shouldnt be too bad I hope...lol. With the tires mounted I put on one of the flat discs I'm going to be running and I like the look. Tore apart the front end getting read to replace the ball joints and brakes then install the spindels. Thats it for today.(5-30-09) I couldnt get my PC to load for an update before now so I'm posting all this on the same day to catch up. Thats why the same post date.
